Salmonella Testing
Salmonella species are pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria associated with serious foodborne and product contamination risks. Their presence in pharmaceutical and nutritional products is strictly prohibited under global pharmacopeial requirements.
Tests We Offer
Pharmaceutical Products (USP <62>)
Salmonella spp. — Specified Microorganism (USP <62>)
Salmonella species are Gram-negative
pathogenic bacteria that must be absent in specified non-sterile pharmaceutical
products. Their presence indicates serious contamination from raw materials,
water, or environmental sources.
Test Methodology (USP <62>)
Testing follows a multi-stage
enrichment and isolation workflow:
- Non-selective pre-enrichment to recover injured organisms
- Selective enrichment in Salmonella-promoting broths to suppress competing flora
- Isolation on selective/differential agar media
- Biochemical and serological confirmation of presumptive colonies
This workflow ensures sensitive
detection even at very low contamination levels.
Dietary Supplements & Nutritional Products (USP <2022>)
Salmonella spp. — USP <2022> Absence Requirement
Under USP <2022>, Salmonella
must be absent in dietary supplements due to its high pathogenic risk.
Test Methodology (USP <2022>)
- Sample homogenization and preparation for representative testing
- Pre-enrichment step
in non-selective media
- Selective enrichment incubation to promote Salmonella recovery
- Isolation on selective agar plates
- Confirmatory biochemical and/or serological
identification
This method is designed for complex botanical and nutritional matrices.
Benefits
- Ensures consumer safety and regulatory compliance
- Detects contamination in raw materials
- Supports GMP manufacturing validation
- Prevents product recalls and regulatory action
